Erection problems (impotence) are very common, particularly in men over 40.
Most men occasionally fail to get or keep an erection. This is usually due to stress, tiredness, anxiety or drinking too much alcohol, and it’s nothing to worry about.

It's a little embarrassing to be talking to a doctor about the risks and benefits of taking Cialis or its generic equivalent, tadalafil, for erectile dysfunction (ED).
But a recent survey found that about 50 percent of men taking tadalafil reported having experienced a "very bad reaction" to the drug, such as dizziness, headache, flushing, and nasal congestion.
The survey, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, analyzed the experiences of more than 1,800 men over the past five years.
"I don't think we're seeing any of the typical symptoms of ED," said Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the Public Citizen Health Research Group. "But we are seeing more and more men who take it with a higher percentage of people who have ED."
In response to the survey, Public Citizen said, "The problem of not being able to achieve an erection on a daily basis is a widespread problem that is increasing with age."
The survey results were published in the February issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
A study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that about 2.3 percent of U. S. men and 5.3 percent of men under the age of 40 reported having experienced erectile dysfunction, compared to 2.9 percent of men in the general population. About two-thirds of the men surveyed said they had ED, with only one-quarter of those with ED taking tadalafil.
The study found that tadalafil is a "potent and highly effective" treatment for ED.
"Tadalafil, or Cialis, is a well-known and well-known drug that is used to treat the symptoms of ED," said Wolfe. "It is a very safe and effective treatment for ED, and it works very well for both men and women."
The results were published in the January issue of the journal Urology, which examined the results of the survey. The study also examined tadalafil use and reported the relationship between the use of tadalafil and ED.
A study of tadalafil and sexual dysfunction in men who have ED published in the April issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association found that men who took tadalafil to treat ED (and those who did not) had a lower incidence of ED than men who had not taken the drug.
"This is significant and it is important to understand that not everyone who takes this medication has ED. It is important to understand that it may be a side effect of the drug. The side effect profile of tadalafil is different from that of the drug taken before sexual activity," said Wolfe.
The results of the study also are "very different" from the findings of a study of tadalafil in men with diabetes that found no increased risk of diabetes.
Tadalafil has been linked to cardiovascular events in patients and people taking nitrates for heart problems, including chest pain.
Tadalafil and heart disease, and the "risk factors for heart disease and cardiovascular events is higher with tadalafil," Wolfe said.
"The real issue is, how do you know that the use of tadalafil will actually help you, and it will help you with ED?
"The answer is that it will help you."
The researchers looked at data from the U. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the effects of tadalafil on sexual dysfunction in men.In the analysis, the researchers found that tadalafil was more likely to cause ED than placebo in men taking placebo. In the analysis of patients taking tadalafil, tadalafil was associated with a lower risk of ED, compared with placebo.
